Good morning and happy Fourth of July! I can’t believe we are celebrating the semiquincentennial birthday of our great nation in an enemy state (Italy circa WWII). We will do our best to be American tomorrow, so I’ll probably exercise my free speech and go troll someone online…that’s what Americans do, right?

In an ironic turn of events, we are also celebrating America’s independence from Britain by getting our UK visas approved!!! They told us they were going to take up to four weeks, which was a huge bummer because we were hoping to go sooner and house hunt. We had our appointments on Monday, and Wednesday afternoon they were approved. Two days?! For the cogs of bureaucracy to work?? A miracle. (The night before I was praying that it would come through soon, and in a last ditch effort I paid the tithing I had been putting off for literally 19 months. Next day, miracle recieved. I’m not treating it like a bribe but it kind of felt like a heavenly bribe).
